1701. Union minister Vaishnaw flags off Purulia–Bankura–Howrah MEMU train: ‘101 stations being upgraded’
- Union Railway Minister on 28 June, 2025 virtually inaugurated the first Purulia–Bankura–Howrah MEMU train via Masagram, highlighting the Centre’s drive to expand and modernise rail networks.
- Minister, noted that currently the rail investment in West Bengal has risen from around rupees 4,380 crore in 2009–14 to about rupees 14,000 crore.
- The new service revives the historic Bankura–Damodar link, covering 283 km at a fare of just Rs 60—cheaper than the Rs 65 Kharagpur route. The new train, with a fare of just ₹60, provided cleaner, faster connectivity for commuters, students, and traders, boosting tourism and economic activity across Purulia, Bankura, Hooghly, and Howrah districts.
1702. Amit Shah inaugurates Turmeric Board headquarters in Nizamabad
- On June 29, 2025, Union Home Minister inaugurated the National Headquarters of the Turmeric Board in Nizamabad, Telangana, fulfilling a long-pending demand of turmeric farmers from the region.
- The event was attended by Union Coal and Mines Minister , Union MoS (Home), BJP MP, Nizamabad MP , and other party leaders.
- The Turmeric Board, first promised by Prime Minister, has received ₹200 crore funding for crop quality improvement, research, and enhancing farmers' income.
1703. Guwahati Smart City: Rs 422 crore projects completed, Rs 633 crore nearing completion
- On June 28, 2025, Assam Chief Minister reviewed Guwahati Smart City Limited (GSCL) projects, announcing that Rs 422 crore worth of projects are completed and Rs 633 crore are nearing completion, positioning Guwahati as the “Gateway to Southeast Asia".
- Key initiatives include the Brahmaputra Riverfront Development, over 2,000 CCTV cameras for an Intelligent City Surveillance System, and energy-efficient LED streetlights, with 11,000 of 20,667 smart streetlights already installed, enhancing urban mobility and safety.
- The Rs 370 crore riverfront project, covering a 1.3-km stretch, aims to create a world-class recreational space, while ongoing projects focus on e-governance and sustainability, though past reports noted challenges like underutilised equipment and Guwahati’s 96th ranking among 100 smart cities.

1704. DRDO's Triple Boost: India's New Missiles, AI Labs Mark Defence Leap
- On 28 June 2025, It was reported that, three key missile systems (MP-ATGM, Astra-2, and VSHORAD) successfully completed their final trials in India, marking a milestone in the country’s defence manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
- The MP-ATGM (30 kg, over 3 km range) is ready for Army induction, the Astra-2 (150–160 km range) successfully cleared trials for Tejas jets, and the VSHORAD (500 m to 5 km range) completed high-altitude tests with only seasonal trials pending.
- DRDO labs became AI-enabled nationwide, improving defence R&D speed. Overboard oxygen manufacturing for fighters began in Bangalore, and the defence sector (both public and private) received a major push towards indigenous production.
1705. Bihar announces India’s first e-voting through mobile app: How does it work?
- On June 28, 2025, Bihar successfully conducted mobile voting for the first time during municipal elections in six councils of Patna, Rohtas, and East Champaran districts.
- The facility benefited senior citizens, disabled people, and pregnant women. Voters used the E-SECBHR app or the Election Commission website, completing mobile number linkage and voter ID verification before casting their votes.
- By June 27, 2025 10,000 voters had registered, and on election day, around 50,000 voters participated online. The Election Commission ensured security through blockchain technology, facial recognition, and login restrictions (maximum two users per mobile number) to prevent tampering.

1706. Indian Railways Builds First 3D-Printed Gangman Hut In Andhra Pradesh In Just 25 Days
- The Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), has completed the construction of a 3D-printed Gangman Hut at Parvatipuram station in Andhra Pradesh in just 25 days, marking the first-ever 3D-printed railway building in Indian Railways and Andhra Pradesh on 26 June 2025.
- The 1,076 sq ft (100 sq m) hut serves as a shelter for track maintenance staff, called gangmen, providing them with rest space, tool storage, and a work base.
- Gangman Hut was created using a 3D concrete printer—a large robotic machine that prints structures layer by layer using specialised concrete materials like Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) and Lightweight Concrete to enhance durability, reduce weight, and speed up the construction process.
1707. Banaras Locomotive Works Delivers 2 Locomotives to Mozambique
- On June 27, 2025, Banaras Locomotive Works in Varanasi proudly exported two powerful 3,300 HP diesel electric locomotives to Mozambique, marking the first of a ten unit order and underscoring India’s growing engineering strengths.
- The locomotives are specially built for Mozambique’s narrow gauge tracks and come equipped with air conditioned driver cabins, toilets and modern features, reflecting India’s focus on comfort, efficiency and international standards in rail technology.
- The delivery is part of a larger trend, prior exports included six units between 2021 and 2023 and now eight more are set to ship by December 2025, showcasing a growing footprint in Africa for Indian built locomotives.
1708. India’s engineering exports to US rise in May despite tariff challenges
- On 27 June, it was reported that, India’s engineering goods exports to the US rose by 4.6% in May 2025, reaching $1.74 billion, reflecting strong bilateral trade despite tariff-related uncertainties under President Trump.
- Engineering goods continued to strengthen their position in India’s export basket, contributing a significant 25.53% share of total merchandise exports in May, showcasing India's growing manufacturing and technological capabilities.
- India’s cumulative engineering exports for April-May 2025-26 rose by 4.77% to $19.40 billion, with 26 out of 34 engineering sectors posting year-on-year growth, underlining the sector’s robust and broad-based performance.

1709. Rs 132 crore DoNER project to globalise Tripura’s queen pineapple: Minister Ratan Lal Nath
- On June 27, 2025, Tripura’s Agriculture Minister announced a Rs 132 crore DoNER project to globalize the GI-tagged Queen Pineapple, aiming to boost farmer incomes and enhance international market visibility, as stated at the 5th CII Tripura Pineapple Festival.
- The initiative targets branding, digital marketing, year-round cultivation on 2,000 hectares, and supply chain upgrades to increase productivity from 14.6 to 17 tonnes per hectare, leveraging Tripura’s 1.74 lakh metric tonne annual yield from 11,862 hectares.
- The Queen Pineapple, known for its golden-yellow colour, aroma, and sweetness, is cultivated in Tripura’s hilly, humid terrain with minimal chemical use, positioning it as a premium tropical fruit globally, supported by DoNER leadership.

1710. In major IT boost, Union minister Scindia launches direct weekly train between Bengaluru, Gwalior
- In a major boost to IT aspirants, Union Minister on 26 June, 2025. inaugurated a new direct train service linking Gwalior to Bengaluru. The launch event took place at the Gwalior Railway Station.
- The new 30-hour service will greatly ease travel for IT aspirants, students, job seekers, and families who earlier had to travel via Kota, Bina, or Bhopal, adding 6–8 extra hours to their journey.
- The train will halt at Shivpuri, Guna, Ashok Nagar, Bina, Vidisha, and Bhopal, enhancing connectivity for multiple districts.
